Join us at our 2024 WOWPS Qualifier Slam featuring multidisciplinary artist Marie Metaphor Specht and hosted by award-winning local spoken word artist, MayaSpoken! The winner of this slam will go on to represent ULPC at the Womxn of the World Poetry Slam—the international slam competition for poets who identify as women, held in Baltimore, MD from March 27-30, 2024—and will be invited to feature at a ULPC event! The winner will also receive $750 towards travel costs.
The show will be Friday November 24th in the Arts Court Atelier Studio, doors open at 7:00pm EST, show starts at 7:30 SHARP!

Sign up to compete opens Tuesday November 7th at 7pm EST. Message us on any of our socials or email urbanlegendspoetry@gmail.com to sign up. The slam is limited to those who identify as women, or with womanhood and feel comfortable identifying as "woman" for the purpose of competing in WOWPS.
There will be three rounds to the slam: a 2-minute round, followed by a 4-minute round, and ending with a 3-minute round. There will be 12 poets in round 1, then 8 poets will move on to round 2, and 4 poets will move on to the final round.
If, for any reason, you are not able to buy a ticket but wish to attend, please let us know and we will add you to the list (unless tickets are sold out).

Then take elevator B to Level 1, then turn left to Elevator A to Level 2, and head right down the hall and the Atelier is the door at the end. __ Marie Metaphor Specht is a multidisciplinary artist and poet living on the traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən SENĆOŦEN speaking peoples. She collaborates with filmmakers, lighting engineers, dancers, and musicians to create immersive and interactive works. A long-time member of the Canadian spoken word scene, Marie is currently serving a two-year term as the 6th Poet Laureate of Victoria, BC. Her work has been featured at festivals, arts events and poetry slams across the country. Marie’s poetry has been published in Oratorealis, Untethered Magazine, Chestnut Review, The Hellebore, and Room Magazine, among others. Soft Shelters is her debut poetry collection published with Write Bloody North.
Whatever form her work takes, Marie leads with compassion as she composes moments of nourishing intimacy and connection. She believes in intrepid acts of beauty. She believes in the power of stories shared.
