Fluid Resilience shares the subtle and amplified connection of water in Nature through a lens of socio-ecological Resilience, in the processes of reconnecting to the biosphere, in a dance. Because our bodies are largely made up of water that circulates to the rhythm of our pulsating flows, we are in reality waves, whirlpools and in states of resilient transformation. Inspired by the teachings of Chelesa-based biologist, Senior Research Fellow Dr. Allyson Quinlan and her work with Resilience Theory and Practice with the Resilience Alliance. And from a Water Ceremony Circle, in 2017 held by the Water Walkers on Ward’s Island Toronto, with the late Josephine Mandomin.

Shannon Cooney shares with us the spectacle of this subtle fluid dynamic that flows through us, informs us and sets us in motion. Listening to, and then following, our inner tides is perhaps an effective way to connect with water - that precious resource we have a duty to preserve - and to become resilient in the midst of a changing world.

Shannon Cooney, Canadian choreographer, performer, and dance educator has been co-producing and presenting her choreography since 1993 in Canada, Europe and in the UK. She’s performed in many artist’s works, and she danced from 1994-2006 with Toronto’s Dancemakers.Berlin-based since 2006, Shannon created teaching practices; Dynamic Expansion/Moveable Cinema a melding of contemporary dance with Craniosacral principals. This practice is the “garden” for her choreographic projects.
