World-Building in Unity for VR


In this 3-part online workshop, participants will work in the gaming engine Unity to create an interactive virtual reality experience.

About this Event:

Participants will be introduced to the gaming engine Unity to create an interactive virtual reality experience with an Oculus headset (a VR headset is not required to follow along in this workshop). This beginner workshop will introduce the user interface and asset store of Unity to set up a 3D environment. We will craft the VR world with imported 3D objects, textures, and baked lighting. Participants will also be introduced to interactions and teleportation systems using the Oculus integration asset from the Unity store.

Participants will need access to:
• PC or Mac with headphones or speakers
• Zoom account (Register here)
• Unity Hub (Download here)
• Unity Version 2019.4.22F1 (Download here)
• Oculus headset (Optional - If you have an Oculus headset you would like to use, you can download the required software here.)
Note: Please create a Unity ID / account and be logged in for the beginning of each workshop.

Session 1: Monday, August 8, 6pm-9pm
Session 2: Monday, August 15, 6pm-9pm
Session 3: Monday, August 22, 6pm-9pm

Instructor:

Jawa El Khash is an artist, technologist and researcher, who graduated OCAD in 2019. She has shown work nationally in Canada and internationally in Istanbul. She was long-listed for the Sobeys Art Award in 2021, she received the Emerging Digital Artist Award in 2020, and the InterAccess Media Arts Award & Prize in 2019.
