Join us at IFCO for "Short Films and Exquisite Corpse" - Super8 film workshop
The "Short Films and Exquisite Corpse" workshop, led by Professor Gustavo Fallas, aims to create experimental short films in Super 8, offering practical experience in cinematic language and surrealist elements.
The workshop consists of two 4-hour sessions and a third 2-hour session. In the first session, participants introduce themselves and receive a theoretical introduction to the elements and practical premises for creating experimental short film narratives. These include a central theme, non-synchronous audio, a single location, a single character, adaptation of an existing text, and a duration of less than 3 minutes.
Practical elements of the Super 8 camera and film roll are analyzed. Workgroups are formed, and an exquisite corpse exercise—a surrealist practice to generate collective ideas—serves as the starting point for the initial script, followed by script writing, material review, location scouting, and pre-production.
In the second session, the filmmaker groups shoot their short films in Super 8 and, with the help of Professor Cooper, progress in developing the film materials. The materials are dried and scanned, and potential elements of editing, sound, and music are discussed. In the third session, the finalized short films are screened, and there is an exchange of ideas about the results obtained in the workshop, the surrealist creative processes, and the appropriation of cinematic language.
