Join us at IFCO for Embracing Destruction - a 16mm Film Workshop with Cooper, Film Scientist
Filmmakers are trained to take care of their film prints and to protect the print from dust, scratches, chemical stains and more. In this workshop, Cooper wants you to destroy your film’s emulsion and the images you have so carefully composed for you to discover art within a destructive process.
Participants will photograph their images prior to the first day of class, filmmakers will have access to a 16mm Bolex Camera and 50’ of Kodak 7378 black and white film. Participants will also have access to a free one on one session on the Bolex camera with Cooper if it is needed.
On the first day of the workshop, participants will hand-develop their film negative; they will then create a print using a 16mm Steenbeck editing table, they will also develop their film prints during the first class. On the second day of class participants will manipulate their film prints using a variety of techniques, including bleach, fantastik liquid cleaner, extreme heat, acrylic inks, sharpies and much more.
