Toronto Rhythm Initiative: The Music of Ella Fitzgerald
The artists of Toronto Rhythm Initiative [TRI] present an evening exploring the music of Ella Fitzgerald through professional tap dance choreography and improvisation, all with original arrangements developed by the dancers, played together live with our fabulous band, featuring Jenna Marie (Toronto) on vocals.
TRI youth ensembles learn choreography during the intensive week leading up to the show. There, they will be celebrated and featured—many of these young dancers will be performing with live music in this style of performance for the first time.
The evening wraps with the Shim Sham Shimmy, a traditional dance dating back to 1934 created by Leonard Reed & Willie Bryant. We reference this piece as “the national anthem of tap dance”, known all over the world in both the tap and Lindy Hop communities. All who know it are welcome to join us on stage for our final jam.
Join us to see some of Canada’s best tap dancers, excellent local musicians, and the up and coming youth dancers in the Ottawa area!
General Admission: $25 + HST and online fee = $30.25
