The Common Cinema

SAW Video is pleased to announce that from November 27 to December 1 our Knot Project Space will function as The Common Cinema, a small-scale community theatre presenting five consecutive evenings of screenings in collaboration with an array of partner organisations.

Free and open to the public, these screenings present works that utilise various formal strategies to address a set of urgent concerns—transgender rights, environmental sustainability, gentrification, decolonisation and the ongoing AIDS crisis.

With each community partner presenting their screenings in their own terms, and in some cases facilitating in-depth follow-up discussions about the works, this temporary cinema will explore the moving image as a mode of resistance and collective world-making, holding the complexities of contemporary struggles in common.

Tuesday, November 27: An Evening of Trans Cinema [screening + discussion] presented by Transgender Media Portal at Carleton University

Wednesday, November 28: My Community is Here | Back Story [screening + discussion] presented by SAW Video and Kind Space

Thursday, November 29: After Horizons [screening + discussion] presented by SAW Video and Cinema Politica Network

Friday, November 30: Selections from ‘The Next 150: Documentary Futurism’ [screening] presented by Cinema Politica Network
